Laurette remanded
Lambert Laurette,
the two-time escaped convict who surrendered to police on Friday October
3, after three weeks on the run, will have to wait until next week for
his case to be heard.
Presiding over the
Supreme Court on Monday October 6, Chief Justice Vivekanand Alleear
remanded Laurette in custody at the Long Island Prison until October 14,
when the case against him will be presented.
A press communique
from the police indicated that in addition to the offence associated
with escaping from prison, Laurette has also been implicated in a series
of thefts that occurred while he was at large.
Shop fined R100,000
for overpricing
The Supreme Court of
Seychelles yesterday imposed a fine of R100,000 on Continental Stores
Pty Ltd, represented by Gonzalves Morin, on two counts of displaying for
sale articles above the controlled price.
The articles in
question were displayed at a price 100% above the controlled price.
The fine is to be
paid within two months. Failure to do so will result in 6 months'
imprisonment on each count.
In passing sentence,
Chief Justice Vivekanand Alleear took into account the fact that
Continental Stores Pty Ltd had no previous record and had pleaded guilty
to both counts.
Two months for
criminal trespass
A young man from
Baie Lazare was on Monday October 6, sentenced to two months'
imprisonment for the offence of criminal trespass.
The man is expected
to reappear before the Court on October 16 to face theft charges filed
against him.
