A packed Stad
Lanmizik on Saturday December 6 saw reggae group Culture check in
for what had been billed as the biggest concert ever in Seychelles.
It was a claim few
people would dispute fiercely.
Seychellois came
out in droves to Victoria Saturday night, despite prospects of rain
earlier in the day, to see Joseph Hill, Albert Walker and Telford Nelson
perform in another marathon set lasting more than two hours.
But an almost full
moon overhead assured the crowd that rain would not spoil the show as it
did when Culture first performed in Seychelles 10 years ago.
In fact, midway
through Saturday’s show, Mr Hill recalled the very song the group was
performing before the rain swept them away in 1993, then went on to
perform a complete rendition of Wings of a Dove.
The concert,
sponsored by Seychelles Breweries Limited (SBL), appeared to pass
without any major hiccups, apart from the virtual moshpit that was the
entrance.
An overzealous
Rastafarian fan who found his way on to the stage three times, only to
be continually chased off by SBL’s marketing director Denis Payette,
provided some comic relief but caused no real harm.
Culture
also performed in front of a sold-out International Conference Centre on
Wednesday December 3. |
