A large crowd of
Hindus living in Seychelles gathered at the Music Stadium in Victoria
Saturday October 4 to celebrate Navarathri.
On the auspicious
day the Hindu community living in Seychelles performed various dances to
worship Durga Mataa, the Goddess of strength. They prayed to the Goddess
by dancing in circles and clapping their hands to the rhythm of live
music.
Before the dance
performances High Commissioner of India, Malay Mishra, sent Navarathri
greetings to all the Hindus and praised the Hindu Council of Seychelles
for its hard work to keep and spread Hinduism here.
H.E Mr Mishra also
called on the Hindus to continue to work in unity and harmony.
The celebrations
continued until late in the evening with more greeting messages from the
management committee and different presentations on why the Hindus
celebrate Navarathri.
Navarathri is also
an occasion for all families to come together and a time for the ladies
and children to wear their best outfit.
Curious
Seychellois, who were able to enjoy a variety of Indian food on sale,
also attended the celebration.
The Navarathri
celebrations ended with the presentation of prizes to winners in
different categories of competitive dance performances and the
distribution of Prasad (sweets).
