A resident of Takamaka, Mrs Frieni Bristol, who has
a slight mental disability, is the winner of the R50,000 star prize of
the Red Cross Society of Seychelles' lottery drawn on December 28 last
year.
Mrs Bristol, along will all the other lottery
winners, was presented with her prize, sponsored by the Red Cross
Society of Seychelles, during a short ceremony which took place on
Thursday January 16, at the Seychelles Football Federation office at the
Place de la République (Stad Popiler car park).
The lottery's second prize of R8,000, again
sponsored by the Red Cross, went to 15-year-old Sheryn Figaro of
Greenwich.
Present at the prize giving ceremony were the
vice-president and other members of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles,
as well as representatives of various airlines, hotels and other
companies that have sponsored other prizes.
The third, fifth, sixth and seventh prizes were
return tickets to Paris, Johannesburg, Kenya and Mauritius sponsored by
Air France, Air Seychelles, British Airways and Air Mauritius
respectively.
The fourth prize, a return ticket to Dubai, was
sponsored by Liquid Air (Sey) Ltd & Pre Safe Services Ltd whereas
Plantation Club Resort & Casino sponsored the eighth prize, Coral
Strand Hotel the ninth and tenth prizes, and Berjaya Mahe Beach Resort
the eleventh prizes, all being dinners for two at their respective
establishments.
Thanking the winners and other people for buying
the lottery tickets and the sponsors for the prizes, Mr Justin Freminot,
the vice-president of the Seychelles Red Cross, said that the society
would be organising these lotteries every year as a way of raising more
funds.
Talking to the press after the prize giving
ceremony, Mr Freminot said that this lottery, which was launched on May
8 last year, was aimed at raising funds to replace money spent on
disaster victims and the less fortunate.
He revealed that last year the society helped
victims whose houses were destroyed by the September disaster on Praslin
and on Mahe, by donating them money to buy food, housing materials,
clothing, among other necessities.
He
further noted that last year the society spent a considerable sum of
money on people whose houses had been destroyed by fire.
