Photography buffs are being invited to take part in
the 2004 Commonwealth Photographic Awards, the grand prize of which is
the enviable sum of £2000.
Cash prizes will also be awarded to regional
winners.
The contest, to be held under the theme "Youth", is
being organized by the Commonwealth Press Union in collaboration with
the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.
Entrants are being invited to interpret the theme
as freely as they like. Photos will be judged on both technical quality
and interpretation of the theme.
Deadline for submission of entries is May 30, 2004.
Although the contest is open to Commonwealth
residents only, pictures may have been taken anywhere in the world. Only
one print per person is permitted.
Photographs may be in black & white or colour. The
recommended print size is 8î x 12î (20.5 cm x 31 cm) although most print
sizes will be permitted with the exception of particularly large ones.
Digital images are not eligible.
Entrants should hold the copyright of the picture
submitted.
Entrants should print their names, postal and
e-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers on the back of the
photographs.
They should say how they heard of the Awards and
also include a paragraph of approximately 50 words explaining why their
photos are significant and giving details of what they show.
Entries will not be returned or acknowledged. Only
winners will be contacted.
Most of the winning photographs will be featured in
a television programme based on the Awards and made available for
broadcast in over 40 countries around the Commonwealth. There will also
be several exhibitions taking place in Commonwealth cities featuring the
wining images.
A special category has been created for the 2004
Awards for children aged between 12 and 18 on September 1, 2004. The
prize will be announced at a later date. The same entry details above
apply to this category.
