Imports will start the new year with a new look once minor renovation
work being carried out on its over a century old building is completed.
The
one-storey building on Albert Street that houses a shop on the ground
floor and residential quarters on the first floor, is being re-plastered
and given a fresh coat of paint while the roofing is being re-done.
Its
proprietor, Mr Kantilal Jivan Shah, said he had no immediate plans to
bring down the building or build a new one as this one, which was made
from corals and laso, was
still as solid as when it was first built back in the late 1800s. His
sole desire, he said, was to conserve the building's unique Creole
architecture, a feature which according to him was disappearing in most
buildings coming up in Victoria or that are being renovated.
Despite
the ongoing renovation work, the shop will remain open for business.
