Container leak

Consignment condemned

The entire consignment of goods in a container that was leaking chemicals at the New Port on Tuesday September 23, has been condemned, the Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB) said on Thursday September 25.

All of the goods inside the container, which ranged from foodstuffs and building supplies to the cleaning chemicals that had originally caused the leak, had been condemned and would not be sold, said SMB’s spokesperson Amitesh Banerjee.

A report in Thursday’s Nation said that some building supplies inside the container, such as roofing sheets, would be inspected before a determination was made whether or not they would be sold.  But Mr Amitesh said that this information had been inaccurately relayed by SMB, and in fact nothing shipped in the container would be put on the market.
