10 years after it
was launched, the highly reputed Indian Ocean economic magazine,
L'Eco Austral will as from December this year dedicate a few of its
pages to Seychelles' economy.
Launched in Réunion
in 1993, L'Eco Austral is a monthly magazine which covers the
economy in the Indian Ocean countries, featuring also cultural, social
and tourism dimensions.
Currently produced
in Mauritius, L'Eco Austral is put together by a team of 20
journalists and correspondents spread out in Madagascar, Mauritius, the
Comores, Mayotte and Reunion. It also has a correspondent in South
Africa.
The magazine has
recently appointed its local representative for Seychelles, Ms Marcelle
Geffroy, who will be responsible for economic news gathering and
reporting as well as marketing and advertising.
Ms Geffroy and the
director of the magazine, Ms Isabelle Poonoosamy who met with the local
press recently revealed that the aspects of Seychelles's economy would
not only feature in the monthly publication but also in its annual
special editions.
L'Eco Austral
has already published two special issues, one featuring the "Guide of
Business Travel and Investment in the Indian Ocean," and the "Top 100
Indian Ocean Companies."
In January next
year it will come out with another issue about the "Top 100 Indian Ocean
Companies," which will for the first time include companies in
Seychelles and in July will publish the "Guide of Business Travel and
Investment in the Indian Ocean," to feature investment possibilities in
Seychelles.
These special
editions will be in English and French, and according to Ms Poonoosamy
it would not be a mere record of companies, but a "working tool which
will allow readers to understand the economic reality of the Indian
Ocean and its future."
Ms Poonoosamy said
the launching of L'Eco Austral in Seychelles was important as it
would allow readers in the Indian Ocean region to know more about what
is happening in the economic arena in Seychelles and for local readers,
especially entrepreneurs to find out more about the business
opportunities in the region.
"The in-depth
analysis of each island and of the region provided by L'Eco Austral
will allow for business opportunities to be effectively identified and
optimised," Ms Poonoosamy said.
A few copies of the
magazine was previously available only on Air Seychelles' flights and at
Alliance Française, but Seychellois will now be able to subscribe at 50
Euros or R300 per year, if they are interested in getting their personal
copies.
