Bodco head Basil Soundy was Saturday May 1
re-elected unopposed to the post of Seychelles' Chief Scout at the Scout
Association's annual general meeting (AGM).
Mr Soundy remains at the top of the 350-strong
scout movement, with the vast majority of the association's executive
committee members also remaining unchanged.
The AGM took place at the National Institute of
Education and was attended by scouts and scout leaders from across Mahé
and Praslin.
Scouts from La Digue missed the event as it clashed
with activities already organised.
The voting process was open to scout leaders and
all scouts over 18, and the results appear to show confidence in the
movement's leadership by the members.
The AGM was the Scouts' tenth following the revival
of the organisation in April 1994, after a hiatus of some 15 years.
Speaking before the start of the AGM the Scout's
National Training Commissioner, Regis Gonthier, said that, aside from
the elections, the most important issue on the agenda was a proposal to
introduce membership fees.
The proposed fees, designed to help the local
association meet financial commitments to the international movement,
stood at an annual R25 per scout and R50 for the leaders, and were
passed by the AGM.
Opening the AGM Chief Scout Soundy said that it
was, "very important that we gather together at least once a year to put
things in order."
