Da Ciro, a typical Italian pizzeria in the heart of Victoria

"It is nothing compared to the pizzas on sale in certain outlets in the country; we sell the best Italian pizzas you can find on a tropical island," claims Mr Di Ciro Pede, owner of Da Ciro Pizzeria, a new pizzeria in town.

Da Ciro is based on the premises formerly occupied by AJ's Peri Peri on the ground floor of Trinity House on Huteau Lane.

With pizzas in the likes of margherita, napolitana, stagioni, capricciosa, diavola, spread with freshly introduced ingredients like carcioti, anchovies, artichoke, capers, Da Ciro certainly does sound like a traditional pizzeria from Italy.

Saying that there are no variety of pizzas on sale, except the common ham and cheese, tomato and tuna or tomato and prawns on sale, Mr Pede, a Seychellois of Italian origin, has promised to bring the real pizza taste to the local clientele with the coming of his special cheese-like-ingredient the mozzarella, which will replace the cheese being currently used at the pizzeria and other components like carcioffi.

Some of Da Ciro's pizzas are spread with a combination of cheese and tomato as the basic ingredients and with others like mushroom, ham, artichoke and sausages, salami, chilli, olive and capers, seafood, garlic and onions, vegetables, chilli and smoked fish. All of Da Ciro's pizzas are served with origano and olive oil.

Mr Pede further said that clients coming to buy pizzas from his outlet would expect freshly baked dough, because he did not believe in preparing the flour a day before for refrigeration. This, he said, spoiled the taste of the pizza.

The prices for whole pizzas range from R45 to R55, and the pizzas are also sold in pieces of R5 and R10.

The pizzeria is open from Monday to Saturday from 10.30 a.m to 10.00 p.m and on Sunday from 12 noon to 10.00 p.m. Mr Pede said opening on Sunday afternoon would be more convenient for members of the public who preferred to eat a light lunch on that day and those going for picnics could always drop by.

Full of optimism, Mr Pede is already anticipating the expansion of his business to make pasta and lasagne.
