The Sekaar's
Shopping Centre at Les Cannelles, Anse Royale re-opens its doors Monday
July 5 after being badly gutted by a fire in which one of its staff lost
his life in April.
The shopping
centre, a popular shopping stop at the junction of the Psychiatric
Hospital, was last month awarded the prestigious International Quality
Summit Award for Excellence and Business Prestige in the Gold Category
by the Business Initiative Directions (B.I.D.).
The managing
director of Sekaar, Mr Somu Sekaar Pillay, said the letter informing
him that his business had won the award came as a surprise but also an
encouragement at a time when himself his family and all his staff were
still reeling from shock after the fire which forced the shop to close
and rob his business of a devoted member when Karthikeyan Pillay lost
his life.
The award
presentation ceremony was held in New York on June 21 during the
B.I.D.’s 18th International Convention Quality Summit.

The ceremony was
attended by other companies together with outstanding leaders from
different business fields, from all over the world who received the
awards in the gold, platinum and diamond categories.
It was Mr Pillay
himself accompanied by his son who collected his prize which was
presented to him by B.I.D. President Mr José E. Prieto.
The prizes are
awarded each year to companies, and businesses for their achievement in
the business field, according to Mr Pillay.
The prizes are
also aimed at making companies and businesses aware of the importance of
client and employee satisfaction, making a positive contribution to
society and being sensitive to environmental problems.
Candidates for the
awards are chosen through the International B.I.D. Selection Committee.
The information gathered through all channels, is analysed by the
International B.I.D. Selection Committee, which makes the final decision
to select the annual awardees.
Meanwhile after
two and half months under intense renovation and hard work the
supermarket re-opens today to the satisfaction of the numerous clients
who have been finding it hard to do their shopping with the nearest
well-stocked shops quite some distance away.
The owners of
Sekaar’s said that they have now made some new adjustments which will
benefit the clients and they also have some new surprises for the
clients as well. So be there tomorrow.
