Christmas is around the corner and despite not many
people being in the festive mood, students from the School of Dance
jingled all the way in the end-of-year Christmas show, on Thursday
December 18 at the International Conference Centre.
The annual event were presented in two parts and
were choreographed by dance instructors Daniella Rose, Emma Durup and
Sonja Gasic.
In the first half of the show the 150 dancers
staged the Creole version of the Cats, music pieces by Andrew Lloyd
Weber.
Clad in their glamorous cat suites and ready to
take the stage, dancers aged between 5 to 22 years – be it beginners or
advanced students – stepped, hopped and swayed on the stage to show
their parents what they had achieved at the School of Dance.
A little mistake here and there did not bother the
crowd who was spellbound by the stunning performances.
The little ones who had forgotten their steps or
those who were fussing around with their costumes or even searching for
family members in the audience instead of minding their steps, brought
more fun and laughter in the hall.
As for the second half of the show, the dancers put
up an array of dance performances which incorporated contemporary dance,
modern dance and ballet, which aroused the audience, who had packed the
ICCS to vigorously applauded for more.
Miss Camilla Jean-Louis clinched the overall winner
award while Vanessa Barbe was the runner- up.
In the 6-8 years category, Vanessa Volcere was
declared the winner while Ketty Mathiot came second. The top place in
the 9-12 years category went to Aisha Ladouceur and Sheera Philoe as the
runner-up while Paola Mahe and Patricia Bijoux were winner and runner-up
respectively in the 13 and above category.
For the first time, students from Praslin performed
alongside Mahe students. They were also rewarded for their good
performances.
Emily Ernesta was the overall winner (Praslin)
while Annacelle Fideria was the runner-up. Pamela Dugasse won the award
for the 6-8 years category.
All the winners were presented with their trophies
by different personalities who included Patrick Nanty, Principal
Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Sports and Culture; Mrs
Raymonde Onezime, director general for Culture; and Mrs Marie-Claire
Elizabeth, Chief Editor at SBC TV.
