A salon with a difference

In today's world of glamour, people will go to almost any length to get the look they want. In the world of hair, one of the key words is extensions or additions.

People decide to wear hair additions for several reasons, whether to achieve a certain style, to add length or thickness to their hair or because they have a hair loss problem.

Hair braiding, which includes extensions, is an art form widely used across the world by people of all races and culture.

It is for these reasons that Inshape's Hair Braiding & Extension Studio, located at Aarti Chambers, Mont Fleuri, recently opened its doors to clients in need of this specialised service.

The studio, which is exclusively devoted to braiding and hair extensions, offers different attachment techniques including braiding, micro-braiding, invisible braiding, twists, weaving, bonding and strand-by-strand bonding.

"It makes no difference if clients have straight or curly hair, light, dark or grey hair, long or short hair, if they are young or old, or have a lot or very little hair," said hair stylist Ms Georgette Onezia.  "With hair additions we can give them the look and style they desire."

Clients can change styles as often as they desire -- go curly or straight without chemicals, or use styles that will help grow out damaged hair, she said.

"Depending on their needs and hair properties, we advise them on the most appropriate attachment methods," Ms Onezia explained.  "We believe we can make a difference in the lives of our clients, especially those suffering from hair loss or damaged hair."

Since its opening three months ago, the studio has come across many people with damaged hair, Ms Onezia said, especially those resulting from external influences like excessively tight braids or the improper application of chemicals.

"The safety of our client's hair and scalp is our foremost priority and should not be jeopardised for the sake of fashion and style," Ms Onezia pointed out.

The studio considers clients' privacy above all else and its local overtones set the scene for a unique experience. It also offers regular hair maintenance and touch-ups.

"We provide a free check-up after the attachment and advise our clients to maintain and re-do their hair regularly, as letting their hair grow out too much will put stress on the  roots of their hair," Ms Onezia said.

Prices range from R200 to R1,200 depending on style, hair type, length and attachment methods.

The studio, open from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. Monday to Friday, receives clients by appointment only and can be contacted on 71 02 50.
