The Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB) has announced
that the price for Promil has been reduced to R26 per tin.
Promil imported by SMB was previously being
sold at R35 and the company has said that the new price is the result of
negotiation it has had with the manufacturers.
A press release from SMB explains that Promil
was being sold at R35 because the company had to buy it from the
domestic market in South Africa to satisfy demand on the local market,
as the product was not available.
"Normally it would have been manufactured on order
by the producer with export prices negotiated by us. As it was a one off
shipment, under the circumstances the product reached the market at the
price of R35 per tin," the press release explains.
It says that though SMB retails Nestle infant
formula like NAN and Lactogen at the SMB Supermarket and
chain of Franchise shops, it had to import Promil to cater to
customer demand and "our commitment to SMB’s mission."
" SMB will move out of these imports once the
products are back on the shelves. The Government is assisting Fock Heng
Health Care (Pty) Ltd to restart the importation of this infant formula
product," the press release adds.
It says that there had been many cases in the
20-year-old history of SMB where the organisation has responded to
complaints and imported certain categories of goods required by
customers when they were not available at all. |
