The Travel Services
Seychelles (TSS) has announced that the Cat
Cocos daily ferry service between Mahe and Praslin will be
temporarily interrupted for a period of three weeks as from Monday July
21, 2002.
The service will
instead be operated by La Creole, another
boat owned by TSS.
According to Mr
David Germain, the company's general manager, Cat
Cocos is expected to resume operation on Tuesday August 13.
He said this
interruption in service was vital for the maintenance programme of Cat Cocos, which requires that the catamaran undertakes engine
fittings every four years.
Mr Germain revealed
that there would be only a slight amendment in the ferry schedule,
and this would affect the weekend service. Instead of having
three trips between the two islands on Saturday and Sunday, this will be
cut down to two only.
The schedule will
remain unchanged during the week whereas on Saturdays and Sundays, La
Creole will leave Mahe at 7.30 in the morning and 4.00 in the
evening. Accordingly, there will be only two trips leaving Praslin at 9
a.m. and 6 p.m.
There will be no
trips from Mahe at 10.30 a.m. and or Praslin at 3.00 p.m. similar to the
ones normally operated by the catamaran.
Compared to Cat
Cocos which carries a total of 159 passengers at one time, La
Creole is much smaller and slower and has a carrying capacity of 50
passengers. La Creole takes
one hour and 45 minutes for a trip between Mahe and Praslin when in full
load.
"But when there
are fewer passengers on board, it will take less time," Mr Germain
said.
Since we are now
experiencing the south-east monsoon and the sea is very rough, the
comfort on board La Creole is
not expected to be of the same standard as on Cat
Cocos. Mr Geق~ٹ>N(}r ȥ V xֲׇQ׆%QDМ;,kv(w2l
