Darrel Mousbé and
Selwyn Beauchamp were the two main attractions during the track and
field meet organised by the Seychelles Amateur Athletic Federation (SAAF)
Saturday at Stad Popiler, breaking a record each in their respective
categories.
Mousbé took 2
minutes 04.15 seconds in the youth 800m to shave 3.50 seconds off his old time of 2 minutes 07.55 seconds which he set in the
25th annual inter-school
athletic championship on June 29 this year.
The second record of
the day came from young Beauchamp, he rewrote the record books by
beating the junior discus record. His performance of 42.19 metres was
enough to erase his own mark of 42.14 established in April this year.
'' The wind
condition was favourable and as I have been training hard, I was
expecting an excellent performance today,'' said Beauchamp.
Another attraction
on Saturday was talented Ronny Marie from the ARSU club who won the
3000m race in a time of 8 minutes 26.71 seconds. Second in the race was
Marie's rival Simon Labiche from Patriot with a time of 8 minutes 34.11
seconds. Third was another youngster, Kevin Monnaie, he crossed the
finishing line in a time of 9 minutes 38.85 seconds.
Diguois Natacha Bibi
took 2 minutes 24.78 seconds to finish the women's 800m in the first position and in the second place was young and
promising athlete Janet Croisée, with a time of 2 minutes 35.71
seconds.
On the field all
eyes were on Antoine Barbe, winner of two gold medals in the long and
triple jumps at the southern region championship in Zimbabwe last week.
In the long jump
Barbe could only manage 6.99m. Even though this was a poor performance
from Barbe he still finished in first
place.
Tony Hoareau was
second with 6.75m and third was Evans Flore with 6.54m.
