PATRICK Asba picked
up from where her left off last year to triumph in Saturday's VCS (Pty)
Limited-sponsored medalford competition held at Anse Aux Pins golf
course.
The first nine
holes were scored using the medal format and at the conclusion of this
stage, Dudu Chudasama was setting the pace with a net score of 29. He
was two strokes ahead of Louis Labrosse, Mervyn Esparon and Catney
Laporte (net 31), while five other golfers were a further two strokes
behind.
The stableford
format, which is normally advantageous to higher handicappers, was
played for the final nine holes.
However, Asba, with
the lowest handicap amongst the leaders, was able to score 20 points to
finish with a winning score of 13.
Chudasama,
following from his win in last Thursday’s nine-hole stableford
competition, earned 16 points on the back nine to equal Asba’s score of
13 but settled for second place following a count back.
A very good score
of 21 points on the back nine gave Andrew Richardson a final score of 14
and third prize ahead of Catney Laporte with a final score of 15.
Mervyn Esparon was
awarded the best front nine outside of the place-getters. Alix Esparon,
winner of the competition in 2002 and 2003, started slowly but finished
well to take the prize for the best back nine. The prize for closest to
the pin on the fourth hole was won by Pascal Esparon.
