GOLFERS witnessed a rare feat last Saturday April17
when Andrew Richardson accumulated 46 points to easily win the Air
France/TSS 18-hole stableford tournament at the Seychelles Golf Club,
Anse Aux Pins.
Godfrey Andrade, playing in the first group, was
the early leader after the first nine holes with a score of 19 points
until being overtaken by Peter Moncherry with what seemed to be the
highest score of 21.
However, Richardson returned to the clubhouse at
the halfway mark with 24 points. Other golfers with a chance after nine
holes included Alix Esparon and Glenn Smith with 19 points each, ahead
of a further three players on 18 points.
Andrade continued to play well on the back nine,
gathering a further 19 points to finish with a total of 38.
Moncherry, who finished with 17 points for the back
nine, matched this score. Catney Laporte also played very consistent
golf, scoring 19 points on the nine for a final total of 37.
Golfers then had to wait for the last group to
complete the course to see whether Richardson had maintained his lead.
His score of 22 for the back nine put the issue beyond doubt, giving him
a well-deserved victory by a big margin of eight points over Andrade,
who following a countback, was awarded second place ahead of Moncherry.
Laporte held on for fourth place with fifth
position going to Zee Rizvi (37 points), including the best back nine
score of 23 points.
Other impressive scores over the last nine included
Joe Morin with 21 and Damien Hoareau with 19.
Many great prizes, including an Air France ticket
to Paris and return for the winner, were presented by Jean-Yves Gaudry
and Anne-Marie Decommarmond of Air France as well as Freddy Karkaria of
Travel Services Seychelles.
Mr Gaudry was impressed with the performances of
the large number of young local golfers who participated in the
competition.
A big smile was being worn by Godfrey Andrade after
receiving a return Air France ticket to Paris in a lucky draw.
The Seychelles Golf Club wishes to thank both Air
France and Travel Services Seychelles for their very generous and
continuing sponsorship of golf in Seychelles.
The Barclays Monthly Mug competition will be played
Saturday April 24 at the Anse Aux Pins venue, starting at 12.30 p.m.
