A nine-strong weightlifting delegation are to leave
the country Tuesday ( May 7) for Nairobi, Kenya, to take part in
the annual African Weightlifting Championship, which starts tomorrow and
ends on Monday May 13.
The delegation, which comprises coach William Dixie
and six weightlifters – last year's snatch gold medallist Janet Thélermont,
Charles Siméon, Peter Havelock, Robert
Kilindo, Terence Dixie, Frank Accouche and Steven Baccus – will be led
by Robert Rose, chairman of the Seychelles Weightlifting Association.
Rose, who is also expected to officiate during the
five-day competition, told Sports
Nation that he was expecting the local weightlifters to do very
well.
“The athletes are ready for the competition and I
believe that they will give an excellent account of themselves in
Kenya,” he said.
The delegation is expected back home on May 14.
