LUCKSTARS, chasing a target of 165 runs in 30 overs
with an asking rate of 5.5 runs an over, never looked comfortable in the
face of hostile bowling of Vijay’s Vasudev and Kaushal.
They were bowling to nagging length and
line-testing both openers and they were back in the pavilion after 5
overs when the total was only 13. A big inning was expected from Muditha
at this point and he did not last long when he lofted the ball to deep
mid-off where Jeevan held on to a good catch off Vasudev.
Luckstars could not recover from this initial
setback and wickets started falling at regular intervals and finally
they were all out for 66 runs in 26 overs. Their only batsmen to enter
in double figures were Bertram with 11 runs and Bandu with 15.
For Vijay, Vasudev took 3 wickets for 5 runs in 4.5
overs, Kaushal 2 for 11 in 4 overs, Naren 2 for 11 in 5 overs and Visram
2 for 16 in 6 overs.
Earlier in the day, having won the toss Vijay
elected to bat. Vijay's opener Patrick capitalised on a number of missed
chances by Luckstars' fielders to get a career best 90 runs, including 5
fours and 2 sixes.
He was the last to go out in the last ball of the
day. He was also well supported by Visram with 18 runs, Naren with 12
and Jeevan with 15.
Luckstars' fielding, especially their catching, was
not up to the standard on the day as they dropped nearly five catches.
The ground condition also did not support them as it rained continuously
during their inning.
For Luckstars, Shantha bowled well to capture 4
wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs.
The next match will be between Mahe Kings and
Youngstars at Stad Popiler Sunday,
starting at 9 a.m.
Meanwhile, practice for national team players will
be held at 3.30 p.m. today at Freedom Square. Those who are unable to
attend the practice session are requested to contact Daya on 717172.
