DAMIAN Hoareau hit birdies on the 11th and 17th
holes to finish with a nett 67 and win the first Barclays Mug of the
year at the Anse Aux Pins golf club recently.
It is the 17-year-old's second Barclays Mug win,
his first was in April 2002.
The crystal Barclays Monthly Mug, one of the club's
most contested trophies, was up for grabs after the first nine holes.
Playing in hot and windy conditions, golfers turned
in some goods scores. Edwin Palmer was well on his way to winning with
an excellent front nine score nett 30, but several other players,
including in-form Patrick Asba and Simon Dine were not far behind
Palmer.
Catney Laporte shot a very consistent round on the
back nine to also finish on nett 67, but he had to settle for second
place behind Hoareau following a countback.
Third place went to Zee Rizvi (nett 69), the only
other golfer to finish with a sub-70 score. Ron Barbé and early leader
Edwin Palmer were fourth and fifth, both players hitting a nett 70.
