CHARLIE Morin, who
used to be a dominant force in golf here before taking a back seat and
let the young players dictate things, came out firing the shots to lift
the beautiful crystal cup of the Annual Airtel Golf Tournament played
last Saturday at the Seychelles Golf Club, Anse Aux Pins.
The day was hot and
humid and every competitor knew that it would be a tough competition,
especially with the Medal-ford format of play.
To help combat dehydration during play, Airtel provided soft
drinks which were served on the course.
The starter, Ms
Audrey Gontier, gave the coup
d'envoi at exactly 12.30 p.m. and the first group of Sajnish Puri,
Joe Morin and Simon Dine teed off under the watchful eyes of the other
competitors.
Slowly each group
teed off and each player tried his or her very best to score as little
as possible on the first nine.
The lowest score of
30 was achieved by Charlie Morin. He was closely followed by Ernest
Pindur, Robert Savy and Russ Thomson with 32
points apiece.
The back nine proved even tougher as the heat had taken its toll on all
the players who needed to remain concentrated.
Unfortunately, some
players, who were among the leaders, faltered along the way after making
too many mistakes in a round during which they were required to score as
many points as possible.
Robert Savy's wheel
came off somewhere on the 15th fairway to end up with only 15 points. In
the meantime, Morin and Pindur kept battling it out and the former
performed some magic in the end to come in with 18 points against
Pindur's 15.
The final top three scores were as follows:
1st Charlie Morin 12, 2nd Ernest Pindur 15 and young Damien
Hoareau 16.
The prizes were presented to the winners by Airtel's chief executive
officer (CEO), Mr Neeran Chiber, who pledged his support for the game of
golf.
In
closing, captain Dudu thanked Airtel and its staff for making the
competition a success and assured that all the players enjoyed every
moment of the golfing life last Saturday.
