FOR once youth got
the better of experience as youngsters William Weidner, Damien Hoareau,
Jerry Jean-Baptiste and comparative veteran Joe Elisa led the field at
the recent Cable & Wireless Golf Tournament played at the Seychelles
Golf Club, Anse Aux Pins.
The competition,
consisting of 10 teams – each made up of four players – was played
on a better-ball format with the team posting the lowest score after 18
holes taking victory.
An edge of
competitiveness was added to this fun-filled event as the winners were
each awarded a Motorola mobile phone and a starter pack, courtesy of
sponsors Cable & Wireless.
Competition was
tight over the first nine holes with the team of Pragassen, Labrosse,
Esparon and Hoareau hot on the heals of the youngsters who returned to
the club house with a gross score of 63.
The second nine was
a slower affair with the players conscious of the importance of every
shot and the pressure soon began to tell. The unlucky Charlie Morin saw
one shot drift into the bush on the 16th and similarly unfortunate was
Lewis Labrosse whose adventurous cross swamp shot fell short leaving him
to battle back onto the fairway.
After 18 holes, the
team of Pindur, Thomson, Waterhouse and Volcère lay in third position
and in second spot were Pragassen, Hoareau, Esparon and Camille. The
youngsters took first place with an untouchable 66.
The chief executive
officer of Cable & Wireless, Mr Geof Houston, was on hand to present
the prizes to the winning team.
In his closing
address, the club captain, Mr Dudu Chudasama, thanked Cable &
Wireless for its sponsorship of the event as well as for being the first
company to take advantage of the opportunity to sponsor a hole on the
course.
Meanwhile,
starting at 12.30 p.m. today at the Seychelles Golf Club at Anse Aux
Pins is the Mahek Restaurant Competition.
