Anthony and Hazel Austin were on Saturday February 21, given a vote of
confidence by being re-elected chairpersons of the local boxing and
swimming bodies for another two-year terms.
Being the
only candidates for the posts, both Anthony and Austin, who were first
elected in office in 2002, were unanimously re-elected.
According to
Anthony, he was confident of being re-elected because of his hard work,
that of his executive committee and coaches over the past two years.
"I think
that the executive committee, which I chaired for the past two years,
has done an incredibly good job. All the members have been co-operative
and I urge them to continue the hard work and dedication in the years to
come," said Anthony.
He added
that this year, the Seychelles Amateur Boxing Federation (SABF) would
like to send more boxers on overseas training and to international
competitions.
"We are
looking into the possibility of sending more boxers on overseas training
and to participate in international competitions. So far, we have
planned three overseas trips for the first six months of the year. We
have a group of boxers going to Gaborone, Botswana, in March to
participate in the final Olympic qualifier. In April, junior and cadet
pugilists are expected to travel to Reunion to train and compete, and in
June, another team of junior boxers are to go to Korea to participate in
a Junior tournament."
Like
Anthony, Gerald Cosgrow has also been re-elected as vice-chairman of the
SABF as well as secretary Fadia Dick and treasurer Edmond Folette.
The ordinary
members will be known only after the coaches’ and referees/judges'
committees and team management have met and hold elections.
As for the
swimming association, it has for vice-chairman Paul Fanchette, while
Priscilla Belize and Ivan Roberts remain as secretary and treasurer
respectively.
The ordinary
members are Alain Alcindor, Phoebe Mangroo, Mervin Austin, Margaret
Louise, Jack Fanchette, Barnsley Albert and Gerald Bristol.
There were
also elections for two posts in the Seychelles Basketball Federation
under the chairmanship of Brian Julie, who is serving his sixth year in
office.
James
Joubert, who was elected secretary last year but has decided to quit the
post because of work commitment, has been replaced by Raymond Siméon,
previously an ordinary member.
Joubert will
now serve as an ordinary member on the SBF committee.
