GODFREY Andrade
emerged victorious in on Saturday's November 23, annual 18-hole
stableford Mahek Trophy tournament played at the Seychelles Golf Club,
Anse Aux Pins, and which attracted a large field.
Despite the heat,
impressive scores were registered on the first nine holes with Lewis
Labrosse, Godfrey Andrade, William Weidner, Alex Esparon and Margaret
Pragassen among the early leaders.
As usual in golf,
the second nine holes, where one has to keep one's concentration and
consistency, are the most important as they often decide the winner.
But Lewis Labrosse, who has been playing some very good nine-hole golf
of late, squandered too many shots which cost him dearly.
He was playing in
the same group as Andrade who scored 20 on the first nine holes and 19
on the back nine for a total of 39.
Slowly, the rest of
the field came in with Alix Esparon managing 36. Margaret Pragassen
followed Lewis Labrosse and lost too many shots as did the other
players.
Then came keen
golfers Jayant Mayadas and William Weidner who both had high first nine
scores and were in contention for the first prize. But they could only
manage to score 36 to leave Andrade, who had not won a competition for a
very long time, to clinch the winner’s trophy.
The final results were as follows: first Godfrey Andrade, second William
Weidner and third Jayant Mayadas.
The prizes were presented by Mr Umang, manager of Mahek Restaurant and
Ms Garema, the restaurant’s chef.
In
his closing address, the secretary of the club, Mr Zee Rizvi, thanked
Mahek for sponsoring the tournament and also for the tasty dinner laid
out for the members and guests.
