THE leaders picked
up wins in their respective categories on Sunday April 4 to extend their
early advantage in the National Championship which is heating up earlier
than usual.
Marc Delcy amassed
a maximum 22 points to lead the Novice class, while young female driver
Diane Alvis took a firm second position followed by Oliver Chang Leng in
third place.
Delcy won all his
heats and the final, while Alvis, who had finished third in both heats,
robbed Chang Leng of the runner-up spot in the final.
In the absence of
a number of drivers in the Cadet class, Roland Delcy did not let slip
the opportunity of consolidating his first position in the standings
with 40 points, seven more than Stephan Simon, who finished second.
Simon was the only
driver who could challenge Delcy but he could not remain concentrated
and lost out in the final.
Third position
went to Micky Victorin who has moved above Dimitri Maiden in third place
in the overall standings.
Overconfidence
spoilt the day for Junior leader Eddie Estrale who was on course to win
the final when he started celebrating victory even before crossing the
finish line. Ruddy Joseph took advantage of Estrale’s blunder of slowing
down to go past him and win by a whisker.
Steven Rosalie
came out third followed by Stephan Emmanuel and Joshua Gopal in fourth
and fifth positions respectively.
Despite losing the
final to Joseph, Estrale still leads the Junior championship table with
40 points, five more than the former.
Gopal (27) and
Emmanuel (25) are third and fourth in the standings while defending
champion Peter Fred, who was absent on Sunday, lies in fifth place with
18 points, three more than sixth-placed Rosalie.
The Formula A
final was again won by Dave Rene who clocked the fastest lap-time of
27.82 seconds. He holds an eight-point lead (44 points) over daughter
Liza Rene in the overall standings.
Liza, who came in
second to his father on Sunday, has 36 points, eight more than John
Simon who inherited the third position from Joel Lau-Tee who ran out of
fuel towards the end of the final.
Andy Alvis
finished fourth, while newcomer Christian Larue span out on the third
lap.
Gavin Booker, Andy
Denousse and Allister Maiden have all fallen further back in the
championship standings after failing to make the start of Sunday’s race.
