Dancesport to be introduced here

ARE you a good dancer and want to dance competitively? You could very soon get the chance to do so as the sports division in the Ministry of Local Government, Sports and Culture (MLGSC) has plans to introduce dancesport here.

Jean Larue, director general for sports planning and development, told Sports Nation recently that the sports division has decided to bring dancesport here following a survey it conducted  in 2002 and a number of people asked that dancing be

introduced as a form of recreational activity.

It is for this reason that a steering committee, chaired by Mr Larue himself, has been set up to draw a work plan for local dancers.

Mr Larue has explained that Seychelles expects to become a fully fledged member of the International Dancesport Federation (IDSF), chaired by Rudolf Baumann, during the course of the year.

Seychellois who want to take up dancesport are asked to contact one of the four persons – Mr Larue (on 225477), Ulric Mathiot (on 323908), Paola Hodoul (on 321333) or Valérie Jumeau (on 283076) – to register.

On the other hand, those who would like to be trained as instructors are also welcome.

The steering committee is to receive six training videos and the IDSF is ready to send two instructors here to train Seychellois who want to become trainers, according to Mr Larue.

Dancesport consists of six forms of dance, namely samba, tango, cha cha cha, rumba, waltz and jive.

It combines physical movement with musical expression, colour, emotions and a sound interaction between a man and a woman.

It is thus one of the most popular activities worldwide in all age groups.
