Nelson Rose wins and gets record
RIDERS of the Vélo Club de Mahé team seem to
be making the most of the absence of the bulk of cyclists of the St
Francis team to dominate the podium and this was the case once again at
the end of Sunday (May 16) morning's gruelling 109-km road race.
In fact, there was a one-two-three finish for
Vélo Club de Mahé as Nelson Rose, Roy Mougal and Alex Savy clinched
the top-three positions following a sprint finish.
Victory went to Nelson Rose in 3 hours 20 minutes
49 seconds (3h20:49), while Mougal and Savy also clocked the same time.
Sunday's victory was Nelson Rose's third this
season – the same number as St Francis' Andy Rose – and his name also
went down in the record books as the new record holder as it was the
first time the race was organised.
Being a junior rider, Alex Savy won the gold medal
for that category followed in second place by teammate Marcus Belle
(3h25:18) and in third position by PLS Riders' Andy Anthony (3h40:30).
It is to note that six other junior and senior
riders failed to complete the distance.
The Cadet 40-km race was won by Leroy Labiche in
1h00:38. France Anacoura (1h02.15) and Raoul Gomme (1h0215) were second
and third respectively.
