STAYING young and
fit is everybody's wish. Not only young people get to exercise these
days. The country's senior citizens are also being asked to do more
exercise and remain active all the time.
On Thursday morning
(March 25), senior citizens from Anse Etoile, Beau Vallon, Bel Air,
Roche Caïman and Plaisance districts joined together at the Anse Etoile
community centre to do some health-promoting exercises.
This activity is
part of the 'Stay Young' fitness programme designed by the Sports For
All Unit (SFAU) within the National Sports Council (NSC) to promote a
healthier lifestyle among senior citizens.
Thursday's fitness
session, the first for this year, included three tests – endurance,
ball-shooting and flexibility. They provided the elderly with the rare
chance to measure their fitness ability.
According to
fitness instructor Dorothy Isidore, the turnout was very good and the
unit is set to decentralise its programme.
"The senior
citizens are finding the exercise very useful and as a result, the level
of participation at the different activities keeps increasing. We are
about to decentralise our programme to attract even more participants,"
said Isidore. |
