WHILE the other
players shot eagles and birdies, Francis Mondon played 18 holes of
steady, consistent golf Saturday February 28 to win the Barclays Mug for
the month of February – his third in as many years.
Playing off a
handicap of 20, Mondon shot a gross 83 to beat William Weidner, who
fired an excellent round of 66 gross – 1 under par.
Third was last
month's Mug winner Damian Hoareau with a nett 65.
After the first
nine holes, Mondon led the pack, however, the heat forced several
players into the shade of the clubhouse leaving him with an all-the-way
victory.
Five players
shared the two-club prize including Catney Laporte, who holed his second
shot on the long 17th hole for a fantastic eagle.
Mondon answered
his many critics, showing he can still win a golf tournament despite his
unorthodox grip.
The next Barclays
Mug will be held on March 27.
Tomorrow, there
will be a nine-hole stableford event which will tee off from 2.30 p.m.
at the Seychelles Golf Club, Anse Aux Pins.
On Saturday, a
Shot Gun Medalford competition is to be contested. Tee off is at 12.45
p.m.
Those wishing to
participate should phone the clubhouse on 376234 by 6 p.m. Thursday
March 4 to register.
