YOUNG Joshua Gopal, a newcomer in the Cadet class
this year, took an important win in last Sunday’s Cadet division of
the National Championship which took place at the Champions Park
Raceway, Roche Caïman.
The win propels Gopal into the runner-up position
in the overall standings with only the last round of the competition,
the Grand Super Final scheduled for November 17, to be contested.
Rudy Joseph had to settle for second place but he
still holds third position on the classification table, while Eddie
Estrale, who is improving with every competition, took a fine third
position.
For his part, Marcus Dubignon, who has already been
crowned champion of this year’s Cadet class, registered one of his
worst performances of the season after failing to qualify for the final
race.
Of the 10 Cadet drivers who took part in last
Sunday’s race, the top seven finishers have automatically qualified
for the Grand Final. Two reserves could also make it through if any of
the qualifiers fail to turn up on the day of the final.
The following is the qualifying order of the
finalists in regards to their positions after last Sunday’s
competition: J. Gopal, R. Joseph, E. Estrale, C. Testa, J. Richards, D.
Cetoupe and M. Dubignon. N. Tirant and S. Emmanuel are the two reserves.
In the Junior category, Peter Fred took another
win, holding off Nelwyn Pierre in second place and Alex Chang-Sam in
third.
Chang-Sam, is to note, can win his second
consecutive Junior Championship title if only he manages to finish the
final race on November 17.
