HAVING won the toss
on Sunday July 28 match at Stad Popiler, Mahe Kings elected to bat
first. Openers Jimmy and Santosh Kunder batted well and the pair took
the total to 25 wickets.
Then wickets
started falling at regular intervals and finally Mahe Kings were bowled
out for 84 runs in 21.1 overs. The main scorers for Mahe Kings were
Jimmy who made 13, Santosh 8, Farook 15, Govind 7 and John 5.
The batsmen had
themselves to blame for the disastrous batting. Even though there were
few deliveries, which bounced viciously, many of the batsmen were out
for rash shots.
Jeevan took 3 for
24, Devsi 3 for 15, while Naren, Aravind and Kaushal took a wicket
apiece.
Vijay reached the
target in 15.1 overs for 2 wickets with opener Patrick 23 not out and
Kaushal 13 not out.
Aravind batted well
to make 30 runs, including a huge six and a few boundaries. For Mahe
Kings, Farook took 1 for 27 and Ramesh 1 for 11.
After the match had
ended, some umpires waited for the batsmen to walk off the playing field
before giving their verdicts, a situation which could have created
doubts in the mind of spectators as well as the players.
It is to note that
it is always important for umpires to give their decisions as soon as
the match is over.
