THE Sports For All Unit (SFAU) within the National
Sports Council (NSC) will, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health
(MoH), be organising different activities at the Roche Caïman fitness
trail on Sunday April 7 to mark World Health Day which this year has for
theme “Move for Health”.
The activities on the one-day programme include a
“dance festival” and a “fitness trail special”.
The dance festival, which will give people of
different ages the chance to learn both
traditional and modern dances, will take place at the Seychelles
Marketing Board (SMB) Exhibition Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The fitness trail special, which is expected to
start at 2 p.m. at the Roche Caïman fitness trail, will provide members
of the public present with information on how to do different exercises
to improve their physical condition.
The participants will also get to see different
demonstrations by NSC sports officers who will show them how to improve
their warming up and stretching techniques before engaging in any
exercise.
Ministry of Health officials will also be present
at the Stad Linite car park to check the participants’ blood pressure
and educate them on the importance of doing exercises and healthy
eating.
According to fitness instructor Dorothy Isidore,
the aims of the activities are to promote dancing as an exercise and
also to encourage a healthier lifestyle among
people of different ages by doing more exercises with the
intention of losing weight and keeping fit.
“By showing members of the public how to better
use the facilities at the trail and some warming up techniques, they
will achieve positive results quicker,” said Isidore.
Meanwhile, all those wishing to participate in the
activities should contact the SFAU at the NSC Office, Stad Linite, Roche
Caïman, on telephone number 323908 during office hours.
