ST LOUIS laboured to a 1-0 win over relegated Ascot to complete the quarterfinal line-up of the Land Marine knock-out competition. The lack lustre match was really not to the standard of a first division encounter. The sole goal of the match came in the 68th minute, albeit in a fortunate manner for St Louis. Goalkeeper Egbert Havelock missed a dipping ball inside a crowded penalty area. The ball bounced off the ground and George Ravinia jumped higher than the diminutive Havelock to head into an empty net. However, Ascot could have shocked St Louis in the 44th minute. Jude Nancy played a short back pass which Ascot's Darren Omath pounced on quickly. He went past goalkeeper Roy Onyango and Malagasy defender Ralida but shot wide his effort. St Louis opponents in the quarterfinal are Northern Dynamo and they will need to improve their performance if they want to go further in the competition. W. J. |
