LA DIGUE LANDFILL STUDY
The island of La Digue, the third most populated island of the Seychelles, produces approximately 400 tons of solid waste annually. Being a small island with a sensitive ecology, important tourism industry and a population heavily dependent on ground water sources, management of solid waste has become a very important constraint to be solved. The study lasted 6 months and included an Environmental Impact Assessment, the design of a Sanitary Landfill, and a Landfill Operations Manual. One of the issues that emerged from this study was that the present touristic and development trends on La Digue are not sustainable.
