The Beau Vallon   School has been in existence for 18 years of which only the last two has   functioned as a secondary school.

Being one of the largest schools in the Seychelles in terms of its pupulation renders it open to two  extremes of academic and pastoral boundaries!

HISTORY                                    bkgrnd.jpg (3521 bytes)

The Place                         [The Staff]

The school came into existence in January 1981.At that time only one block was built consisting of P1-P3 (year one to year three) which is today the existing Secondary One  and Two blocks.  There were two classes per level and one teacher per class. Altogether there were six teachers plus a helper to accompany the teachers. At that time the school did not have any furniture and the school had to borrow the furniture from other schools, for example the Regina Mundi which was located in Victoria the Capital and Town of the island of Seychelles .

Before the second block was built, the area was nothing but big rocks and vegetation, so a lot of heavy work had to take place. While the blasting and the cutting of trees were in progress the teachers and the students had to evacuate the area by going to the beach. One year later the second block was built and that was the P4-P6 (year four to year six) which is again today the existing block of S2 (year eight). The primary four and primary six accommodated children from the Beau-Vallon district who were sent to Glacis and Bel-Ombre school, two schools located in the Northern region just like Beau-Vallon. The year after,  the building was extened thus giving rise to a new block which accommodated the Primary Seven to Primary Nine students. This is the actual   S3-S4(year nine to year eleven) block.

The Staff                                                                [ThePlace]

In 1983 the Beau-Vallon school was officially opened by the Minister of Education who  at that time was Mr. Jeremy Bonnelanme .The Head Teacher of the school was Mrs Lensi Hoareau and there was no studies coordinator at time . The teachers were generalists, which  means they taught all the subjects. These were English, French, Mathematics and Creole, our mother tongue (officially KREOL SESELWA).

In 1983,  Mrs. Paquerette Gonthier was appointed as the first Studies Coordinator, and when Mrs.Lensi Hoareau was transferred to Glacis school Mrs Gonthier was promoted to the post of Head Teacher and Mrs Daniella Antat was thus appointed as the new Studies Coordinator.Mrs. Gonthier was the Head Teacher until the year 1995.

Throughtout the years several changes took place, of which the major one was that the Primary seven, eight, nine were converted into Secondary Levels which are Secondary one, two, three and another level was added to it making it level four. So instead of doing three years of Secondary level it was entitled to do four years.

In 1995 we saw the departure of our long standing Head Teacher Mrs. Paquerette, Gonthier who was replaced by Mr. Regis Gontier, who was before then, the Head Teacher of Pointe Larue Primary and Secondary School. Up to now he has been the Head Teacher of the Beau-Vallon School. Mrs.Daniella Antat was replaced by Mrs Carpin. During those years the Primary was still attached to the Secondary School.

In 1997 Beau- Vallon School became a Regional Secondary School. Major changes in the national educational system at the beginning of 1998, caused complete new structure in the staff system thus rending the to its present state...
